The launch of the discourse series focuses on the fundamentals and current state of research in provenance research. Dr. Meike Hopp (German Centre for the Loss of Cultural Property) will speak about the possibilities and limitations of working with historical sources in provenance research: How can the paths of cultural property that were confiscated during the Nazi era be reconstructed? What possibilities do historical sources offer – and where do researchers encounter limitations? The artists Adi Liraz and Lea Petermann will then present their work: What role does provenance research play in their artistic practices of remembrance? What stories do they want to tell? Afterwards, the three speakers will discuss provenance research and mediation.
