How do we want to remember in the future?

In remembrance of the persecution and disenfranchisement of Jewish people during the Nazi era, we want to pose questions to young people, such as what we want to remember, which possessions are particularly important to us, what value even the smallest items can have for people, and what it means when these are taken from us.

In our porcelain collection, there are objects that were confiscated from Jewish people during the Nazi era and came into the collection unlawfully. Through research, they were able to be returned to their rightful owners, and some were gifted back to the museum. We would like to look at these porcelain figures with young people and discuss them, share stories, and then create a large chalk artwork on the Elbe Cycle Route beneath the Augustus Bridge.

For the project day, we are planning a joint workshop with Emulsion adhesive, at which participants create their own artworks using pavement chalk along the Elbe. Together with the workshop leaders, this will create a chalk monument in the public space.
