A National Socialist government was installed there the same night and formally approved the \u2018Anschluss\u2019 (literally \u2018connection\u2019, \u2018joining\u2019) of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938.<\/p>\n<p>The annexation of Austria was the Hitler regime\u2019s first major act of aggressive territorial expansionism.
