Adolf Hitler planned to realise a prestigious art museum in Linz on the Danube. To this end, he founded the Linz Special Commission in June 1939. This organisation was tasked with collecting works of art for the planned Führer Museum by confiscating and purchasing them from all over Europe. He appointed Dr Hans Posse, the director of the Dresden Picture Gallery, as special commissioner.
Many Jews used to live in Germany.
Hitler and the National Socialists persecuted these people.
They expelled and murdered the Jewish people.
And they stole her things.
Robbery is another word for theft.
The stolen items also included works of art and books.
Jewish people sometimes collected books and works of art.
Because they were particularly fond of books and works of art.
They then had valuable works of art at home.
Some stolen artworks and books are now in museums and libraries.
The museums and libraries want to return the stolen items.
